Buchanan Grant Cathro

FINANCIAL ADVICE PROVIDER - T/A CATHRO FINANCIAL SERVICES - FSP620609

As the youngest of four children, I grew up with a deep understanding of the importance of family and the need for a nurturing and stable environment. This foundational value is something my wife and I have been dedicated to providing for our own two children. While I may be a bit biased, I believe we’ve succeeded in creating such an environment, as our now-adult children confidently forge their own paths in the world.

This strong sense of purpose and pride, rooted in my family, inspired me to establish Cathro Financial Services in 2018. My goal is to assist others in creating a secure and supportive home for themselves and their loved ones—whether they’re human or four-legged family members!

Before founding Cathro Financial Services, I spent 18 years in the financial services industry, gaining experience across a variety of roles. This extensive background has given me valuable insights into what customers need, especially when it comes to the home-buying process. While each situation is unique, our goal remains the same: to simplify the journey with clear, informative guidance at every step. Whether you're planning to buy in three years or in the next six months, think of us as your trusted guide—here to support you through the entire process.

FINANCIAL ADVISER - FSP1009584

Growing up, I was often told, “You’re definitely your father’s child,” so it’s no surprise I’ve found myself working alongside him as a financial adviser.

After finishing high school, I completed a Bachelor of Business Studies. I initially thought I’d major in Marketing and Management, but by the end of my first year, I discovered Finance was where my real interest lay.

Since graduating, I’ve worked in a variety of roles - including software test engineer, banker, and data analyst. Still, I was always drawn to the work Dad did, finding it both interesting and rewarding. In late 2024, I joined Cathro Financial Services. Having already completed my New Zealand Certificate in Financial Services (Level 5), I became an accredited Financial Adviser in March 2025.

Since then, I’ve submitted a number of deals, continued to grow my knowledge, and enjoyed bringing fresh ideas and new perspectives to the business - proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks!

I’m excited to keep helping Kiwis on their home ownership journeys.
